Best Apollo alternatives · keep Apollo #1, split the job

You're here because a listicle said to rip out Apollo. That is usually the wrong question.

Default Apollo for the small-team find-plus-sequence seat. Upgrade ZoomInfo or Cognism for a dial or EU phone field. Move send to Smartlead at volume. Use AI Ark for cheap list-build and FullEnrich for hard-miss cascades. Amplemarket only when the whole bundle execution is the complaint.

  • Name what broke before you rip the seat.
  • Apollo wins self-serve database plus sequences plus dialer for email-first small teams.
  • ZoomInfo wins dial coverage in Cleanlist’s 2026 phone test. Email gap is smaller.
  • Cognism wins EU and UK mobile plus compliance.
  • Smartlead wins the send seat when Apollo’s built-in sender hits a wall.
  • Amplemarket is the closest like-for-like bundle challenger.
  • Clay, Instantly, Lemlist, and LeadMagic are peer layers, not hero replacements here.

MethodHow we scored these tools▾

Ranked by stuck job, not brand hate. Apollo stays first for the small-team find-plus-sequence seat. Cleanlist’s March 2026 phone test informs the dial fork. Plan stickers come from Apollo’s pricing page. ZoomInfo, Cognism, Lusha, Amplemarket, and Sales Navigator show up where the job calls for them.

buy if

  • You want an honest default, not a rip-and-replace pitch.
  • You can name whether the stuck job is contacts, enrichment, send volume, EU phone, or LinkedIn graph.
  • You want published plans before quote-only enterprise floors.
  • You will keep Apollo until a single field forces an upgrade.

skip if

  • You already know dial coverage is the only bottleneck and you have budget for a quote-only phone database.
  • You only need to unlock emails one by one in Chrome and never send sequenced mail.
  • You want a 15-tool directory with equal weight and no number-one pick.

Job-split beats brand-swap

Teams do not fail because Apollo is dead. They fail because one field broke and someone bought a whole new logo.

Map the stuck job first:

  • Dial accuracy → ZoomInfo or Cognism, depending on region.
  • Enrichment on a list you already have → Clay as a peer workbench, or a managed cascade like FullEnrich.
  • Volume send and inbox warmup → Smartlead or Instantly as send peers.
  • LinkedIn graph → Sales Navigator.

Apollo stays the bundled find-plus-send seat when that combo still works. Keep it until a field forces the upgrade.

Why Apollo still wins the SMB bundle seat

Published plans matter under about 25 seats. Free includes 900 credits per seat per year. Basic is $49 per user per month annual with 30k credits a year. Professional is $79. Organization is $119 with a three-seat minimum, so $357 a month.

Email costs 1 credit when verified. Phone costs 8. Credits do not roll over. Annual unlocks the year on day one.

That package beats assembling three vendors for a five-person team that mostly emails. Re-check Apollo’s pricing page before you lock. Stickers move.

ZoomInfo and Cognism are field upgrades

Cleanlist ran 1,000 leads the same day in March 2026. ZoomInfo mobile landed about 67% versus Apollo about 41%. Direct dial was about 71% versus 52%. The email gap was smaller.

If the motion is dialer-led, paying up can make sense. If the motion is email-led, the gap often closes with a verifier. Do not buy ZoomInfo on email accuracy alone.

Cognism wins when EU or UK mobile plus compliance is the motion. Lusha shows up in the same regional talks. Neither is a better Apollo for a US email-first small team. They are upgrades for a field.

ZoomInfo is quote and annual. Deals often start in the low five figures a year. Comparing a $79 Apollo seat to ZoomInfo without yearly floor math misleads buyers.

Amplemarket is the like-for-like bundle challenger

Amplemarket is closest when the complaint is execution and deliverability inside the all-in-one, not raw contact cost. Same consolidation shape. Stronger send and workflow story in operator writeups.

Reach for Amplemarket when Apollo’s built-in sender hits a wall and you still want one vendor. Reach for Smartlead when you want to keep Apollo as source and isolate send. Those are different swaps.

Sales Navigator, Clay, and when the job is not Apollo's job

Sales Navigator wins the LinkedIn graph. It is not a contact database with sequences. Pair it with Apollo or AI Ark when you need emails after the graph.

Clay is orchestration when you already have a list. It is not an Apollo alternative card on this page. Instantly and Lemlist are send peers when volume outbound is stuck. LeadMagic is an API hop inside a cascade. None of those replace Apollo’s find-plus-sequence seat as the default number one.

Who shows up in sections, not as ranked cards

ZoomInfo, Cognism, Lusha, Amplemarket, Sales Navigator, and RocketReach matter when the stuck job points there. They are not equal ranked cards beside Apollo on this page.

RocketReach shows up as a coverage hop in some roundups. It is not the small-team bundle default here.

If your shortlist is fifteen equal logos, stop. Pick the stuck job. Keep Apollo until that job fails. Then upgrade the field.

When should I keep Apollo instead of switching?▾

Keep Apollo when the stuck job is still list, dial, and sequenced send on a mainstream ICP with a small team, and email is primary. Switch a field when phone coverage, EU compliance, multi-provider fill rate, or send volume is the real bottleneck.

Apollo vs ZoomInfo vs Cognism · which job each wins?▾

Apollo wins the self-serve small-team bundle. ZoomInfo wins dial-heavy budgets when the annual clears. Cognism wins EU and UK mobile plus compliance. Email-led small teams usually stay on Apollo plus a verifier.

Is Clay an Apollo alternative or a different layer?▾

Different layer. Clay orchestrates enrichment on lists you already have. Apollo sources and sequences. Many teams stack source in Apollo, enrich elsewhere, then send on a dedicated sequencer.

Best Apollo alternative for EU phone data?▾

Cognism is the usual field upgrade for EU and UK mobile plus compliance. Apollo stays fine for US email-first. Test your own list before you trust any coverage slide.

Best Apollo alternative for high-volume cold email sending?▾

Keep Apollo as source. Move send to Smartlead (or Instantly as a peer) when mailbox count, warmup (small safe mail before cold volume), and placement testing become the product. Export credits (leave fees) and blank-email traps are the handoff tax.

Is Amplemarket better than Apollo?▾

It is the closest like-for-like bundle challenger when execution inside the all-in-one is the complaint. It is not automatically better on contact cost.

What should I do next?▾

Name the stuck job. Bundle still works? Open Apollo. Dial coverage? Look at ZoomInfo. EU phone? Look at Cognism. Send volume? Open Smartlead after export. Hard misses? Open FullEnrich. Cheap list-build hop? Open AI Ark. Then test 100 to 500 of your own rows.

If the bundle still works, open Apollo (/go/apollo) and stop shopping logos. If dial coverage is stuck, look at ZoomInfo with yearly floor math in hand. If EU phone is stuck, look at Cognism. If send volume is stuck, keep Apollo as source and open Smartlead (/go/smartlead). If hard misses after a first pass are stuck, open FullEnrich. If cheap list-build is stuck, open AI Ark. Name the job. Upgrade the field. Keep the seat until it fails.
